The Lukang Longshan Temple stands as the largest temple in the Township of Lukang and is one of Taiwan's most revered Buddhist temples. Constructed near a historic port canal in the 17th century, the temple was relocated to its current site in 1786. As an important national heritage site recognized by the Taiwanese Ministry of Culture, the 9,600 square foot complex comprises four main structures: the Main Gate, Hall of the Five Gates, Main Hall, and Rear hall, along with two enclosed yards. Within its walls, a shrine honors the Bodhisattva Guanyin, goddess of mercy and compassion, making it a beloved place of worship for Mahayana Buddhists.
