Lucrezia Borgia was born on April 18, 1480, in Italy to the powerful House of Borgia. She was the daughter of Pope Alexander VI and Vannozza dei Cattanei. At a young age, she took on a significant role as Governor of Spoleto, a position typically held by cardinals. Her family played a crucial part in arranging her marriages to advance their own political influence. These marriages included Giovanni Sforza, the Lord of Pesaro and Gradara, as well as Count of Catignola; Alfonso of Aragon, Duke of Bisceglie and Prince of Salerno; and Alfonso I d'Este, Duke of Ferrara. Rumors have circulated that her family might have had a hand in the demise of Alfonso of Aragon following his decline in political power. It's also rumored that he was an illegitimate child of the King of Naples. Lucrezia Borgia has been depicted as a femme fatale across various artworks, novels and films. Her reputation is often tainted by the actions of her family members.
