Dubbed 'Lucky,' the unfortunate feline, known as such due to its undeniable bad fortune, met its fate under the cornerstone of Her Majesty's Theatre in Lydiard Street, Ballarat, back in 1874. The reason for this burial was rooted in a long-held superstition that interring a deceased cat beneath the foundation would guarantee good luck throughout the construction process of the building. Lucky itself reemerged to public view when extensive renovations to the original structure took place in the 1990s, and it was subsequently placed in a display case for safekeeping and admiration.
