Lucerna grega clássica (séc. VI-IV a.C.)
sketchfab
This type of ceramic lantern maintains some characteristics of the ancient examples, such as a central supporting tube, but presents several modifications: a spoon-shaped nozzle with a large opening for the wick, absence of base and meticulous painting with black varnish are features of the oldest variants. Within a two-century period of use, the curved or flat edge, the way in which the paint is applied and the shape of the nozzle allow for more careful dating. The type probably developed in Athens as the examples from the 6th century BC covered with a fine black varnish, whose Athenian origin is almost guaranteed. In the 5th century BC, however, the form becomes common in Greece, often decorated with red varnish, and lanterns of the same shape were manufactured in various locations, including Athens, Olinto and Corinto.
