The train never ran as a complete set after WW2, and under British Railways, valences were removed. After a fire when in Huntingdon in 1951, additional doors were added to twin sets.
In 1948 they were returned to service as general passenger stock, but they never ran as a full set again - the observation cars were transferred to the West Highland line in 1956.
