The Luba Mask from Congo stands out as a masterpiece of exceptional æsthetic qualities. This rare buffalo mask is one of the most renowned pieces in the Royal Museum for Central Africa, also known as the Africa Museum in Tervuren. For many years, the bird at the back of its head was detached from the rest of the mask. To restore it to its original position and gain a deeper understanding of the wood's structure and tree rings, the Luba Mask underwent a CT-scan examination in January 2005.
