The head of the Ichihara family was unable to make an annual visit to Ise Grand Shrine due to illness.\nInstead, he sent his dog "Shiro," a white Akita, on the journey.\n\nHe placed a note explaining the route with the words "Please guide this dog as it understands human speech. Provide assistance" in a bag along with travel expenses and secured it around Shiro's neck.\nThen, he had Shiro begin the 1,300-kilometer trip to Ise Grand Shrine.\n\nTwo months later, Shiro returned home safely.\nThe bag contained a bill, receipt for donations to Ise Jingu Shrine, food costs, and remaining travel expenses.\n\n"Shiro" became well-known in the city and loved by everyone but passed away three years after that.\nThe event occurred from 1804 to 1831.\n\nPhotogrammetry was applied using 356 photographs.\n\nThe location is Jonenji Temple in Sukagawa City, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan.\nhttps://goo.gl/maps/UccX4ZM9c4MtqfSD6
