The Bell UH-1 Iroquois, commonly referred to as Huey, is a highly versatile military helicopter powered by a single turboshaft engine, equipped with two-bladed main and tail rotors. This first member of the incredibly successful Huey family was designed by Bell Helicopter to meet a 1952 US Army requirement for a medical evacuation and utility helicopter, and it took its maiden flight in 1956. The UH-1 was also the very first turbine-powered helicopter ever produced for the United States military, with an astonishing total of over 16,000 units built since 1960.
