Lower part of a statue group of Athena and a Giant

myminifactory

A fragment from a statue group depicting Athena attacking a crouching Giant is discovered in Lavrion, carved from Pentelic marble. The goddess is shown advancing to her right as she strikes at the Giant, possibly Engelados, with great force. Crafted in the 1st century AD, this work closely replicates an earlier prototype created during the second quarter of the 5th century BC.
