Lower crown race for 1.5" tapered forks
thingiverse
Update: This has been the only crown race that fits both of my mountain bikes for about a year now, and one has been on one of my wife's bikes for the past several months. It works great.\nSaw the innovative 1 1/8" lower crown race design by Jacques Dugal (http://www.thingiverse.com/quezz38/about) and thought it was an excellent application of 3D printing technology. The only problem is all of my forks are tapered, so I need a 1.5" lower crown race. Such a simple design didn't require using the original, so I drew it up from scratch.\nThis will work with headset bearings that have a 45 degree angle, which is most common for 1.5" lower bearings.\nI've printed in PLA (the red part) as well as ABS (the yellow) and both work perfectly. The fitment matches the original aluminum race on my Specialized Epic exactly.\nDisclaimer:\nSome people were skeptical about Jacques' part failing, predicting catastrophic consequences - but this is a piece under simple compression, so if it's printed solid, failure is unlikely. Even if it did fail, at worst you'd have a loose headset. That's all. As it is, Jacques confirms that his 1 1/8" design has survived hundreds of miles of riding with no issues or appreciable wear.\nOf course, like everything else on Thingiverse, use your own judgment when printing and using this part. If you don't feel safe, don't print it. If you do print it and get something wrong, that's on you.\nPrint Settings\nPrinter: \n My Monoprice Maker Ultimate\n \n Rafts: \n No\n \n Supports: \n No\n \n Resolution: \n 0.2mm\n \n Infill: \n 100%\n \n Notes: \n Print this part solid, either with thick walls or 100% infill. There's no need to skimp on the infill; it's small and prints quickly even at 100% infill, remaining lighter than the aluminum original part.\nYou can print at lower resolutions for a smoother finish, especially on the 45 degree angle.
