lowboy trailor
thingiverse
I said I wouldn't build a lowboy trailer because one was already here on Thingiverse, but I tried to print this thing despite problems. While I managed to repair minor hole alignment issues and add missing parts, I wasted three rolls of filament trying to make it with support structures that just didn't work no matter what I did. When I placed my dozer on it, the thing would bow down to the ground - a problem I couldn't fix. And to top it off, the amount of filament required was way too much without any support at all. So I kept the good parts and ditched the bad ones, making a lowboy trailer that actually represents a real one. I did keep the upside-down spring suspension, despite the fact that it's totally unrealistic - but surprisingly, it works extremely well. I've never seen any suspension with upside-down springs in my life, and all the experts will tell you why you shouldn't do this. But like I said, it does work quite well. This remix uses about one-third the amount of filament and can handle heavy weights with ease - I use my dozer as a test because it's the heaviest piece of equipment in my collection. I added all the missing parts: axles, rear light lens, trailer hitch, etc. Everything is assembled using screws for plastic on the main floor and M3x14 screws for the suspension with 6700zz bearings. I also extended the tongue to clear my truck bumper, which didn't come out right initially. And I kept the wheels because I like them - they're a better representation of Tamiya tires. However, since they're solid (meaning the rims are part of the tire), you can't print the rims separately from the tire without breaking easily from the axle. If you don't like this, you can use the tires and rims from my other trailers, which have separate rims that you can print solid with a light infill.
