Low profile record weight

Low profile record weight

thingiverse

This is a modification of a series of record weights I posted a while back at- https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3653892 The reason for the modification is that I now have a different turntable with a very low cover height and a low profile cartridge and tone arm. My original weight might damage the cover if it were to be closed while the weight is in place, and the larger diameter version I made probably would interfere with the tone arm. Also, I wanted to maximize the diameter at which the weight is applied to the record while still mechanically clearing the cartridge and tone arm. This new design has a broad base, nearly the diameter of a standard LP label. The edge tapers steeply for tone arm and cartridge clearance and the lower surface is inset by about 1.5mm so that the force of the weight will only be applied toward the edge of the label. When filled with standard BBs the assembly weights about 140 grams (about 5 ounces). This is more than enough to help flatten out warped records while not overly stressing the turntable's center pivot bearing. If you prefer not to use BBs as weights it is designed to also accommodate 3 or 4 standard 3/4" ID x 2" OD x 1/8" thick flat washers. You could also use lead shot or other similar materials. I hope that this may be of interest to you. Thanks for looking.
