Low Profile LM8UU X Carriage (Makergear)
thingiverse
In a nutshell, this modification was specifically designed to accommodate an E3D hotend who requires hanging lower than most due to its heatsink and fan. To accomplish this, I streamlined the platform itself and then moved it downward until it reached near flush with the bottom. The redesigned carriage is made from orange material.\nThis design is geared toward the Makergear Prusa from yesteryear; however, it will not support modern extruders. Although this may seem problematic, I've been exceptionally well-served by the original extruder, and therefore do not intend to replace it at present.\nThe LM8UU bearings simply slide into place; however, I strongly advise that you adhere mine with epoxy to ensure they remain secure. Using a decent-quality epoxy is relatively inexpensive and quite straightforward; despite possessing a strong scent for a couple of hours, the results are certainly worth the slight inconvenience.\nPrint Settings\nPrinter Brand:\n RepRap\nPrinter:\n Prusa Mendel\nRafts:\n No\nSupports:\n Yes\nResolution:\n 0.2mm\nInfill:\n 50%\nNotes:\nThe settings I used took roughly five hours to print. Ideally, one would want a 0.5mm nozzle, 0.4mm layer thickness, 230C hotend, and 100C bed. My primary goal was creating an aesthetically pleasing outcome rather than prioritizing speed.\nPost-Printing\nAdjustments to the wooden insert:\nThe lasercut grovemount insert fits snugly at best. To compensate for this, you might want to take a piece of sandpaper or a razor blade and gently thin it out slightly. As I had already decided to make some changes to my grovemount holder, I will design an upgraded printed part here in the next few days to resolve this issue once and for all.
