Where I work, we have a large number of spools scattered around. To prevent them from unspooling, we typically thread the filament through one of the holes on the side of each spool. This approach functions effectively but makes it challenging to stack multiple spools on top of each other. We needed a way to add a low-profile filament clip that wouldn't interfere with normal printing and didn't protrude beyond the edge of the spool. This part was designed specifically for use with [3Dom USA Eco-Spools](http://www.3domusa.com/eco-spool/), but it will work with nearly any spool that has a 3mm or larger hole near its rim. The same part is compatible with both 3mm and 1.75mm filament.
