Low-Poly Retro Link Remix w/ Stand

Low-Poly Retro Link Remix w/ Stand

thingiverse

This is a remix from Flowalistik on Youmagine. I liked the low-poly design, but I hated the eyes; those were the first thing I nixed. Next, I wanted to add a base for several reasons: I needed to give a wider print surface to help with adhesion for anyone wanting to print this out, and I really wanted to use the Zelda emblem. I borrowed the base from here. After playing around with the design, I got an idea to remove the integrated rupee and add one separately. If you have any green, blue, yellow, red, or silver filament (especially any translucent ones), print the rupee with that color. I shrunk the rupee down a bit and it's slightly smaller than the one I removed; I did that to account for any possible variances in filament types and printer configurations. I printed mine in PLA, but if you print in ABS, you might want to enlarge it just a little to account for shrinkage during cooling. Post-Printing Joining the rupee to the figure. I first placed it in the spot to ensure there was a proper fit. I then sand down and file away any rough edges if any exist. I took an old soldering iron (not my primary one) and brought it up to heat. I then placed the end onto the bottom of the hand to melt the PLA just a little. I moved the soldering iron and placed the rupee into the hand. When the PLA cooled, it held the rupee in place. If you don't have a soldering iron, glue or epoxy will work just fine; just make sure you aren't going to melt half of your print by using the glue/epoxy – some filament types melt down around certain solvents and chemicals. Test on a scrap piece first.
