Common names are pe-pe-sha (Russian: ÐиÑÑолеÑ-пÑлемÑÑ‚ Шпагина;) from its three-letter prefix and papasha, which means daddy in Russian. This PPSh is a magazine-fed selective fire submachine gun that uses an open bolt, blowback action. The major component is stamped steel and can be loaded with either a box or drum magazine and fires the 7.62×25mm Tokarev pistol round. This highly used military firearm saw extensive combat during both World War II and the Korean conflict. As one of the key infantry firearms of the Soviet Armed Forces, the PPSh played a major role in combat. Around six million PPSH-41 models were manufactured. In the form of the Chinese Type 50, this weapon is still in use as of the year 1970 with Viet Cong forces. According to data from 2002 in "The Encyclopedia of World War II Weapons", some irregular militaries are currently using the PPSh model.
