Low-Poly Pokemon Quilava
thingiverse
This is a model of my son's favorite Pokémon, Quilava, done in the low-poly style. Low-poly objects are things designed with a minimal number of polygons, giving them a blocky or 8-bit feel. They can also be easier to 3D print, as objects with millions of polygons are harder to process. I designed Quilava using Tinkercad. After the body was roughed in, I exported an STL and imported that into Meshmixer where I decimated it (reduced the number of polygons) until it looked good. Then back into Tinkercad, where I removed its left side, duplicated & flipped the right side and stuck it to the left, creating perfect bilateral symmetry. Then I added the flaming head fins and tail. Prints OK with supports for the tail, torso and head. I plan to make another version soon with detached flames that could be printed separately and perhaps in different colors. Quilava is available to copy-and-edit on Tinkercad.com: https://www.tinkercad.com/things/6qJoX3eiAFW-quilava-pokemon-low-poly/edit UPDATE DECEMBER 2019: For version 2.0, I made a few edits to make Quilava a bit sturdier and easier to print: increased size of front feet fixed a possible void in belly changed frills from being flat to being dimensional increased size of ears
