The Nazi-issued MG 42 was a World War II era machine gun that fired at an astonishing 1200 rounds per minute, earning it the infamous nickname "Hitler's Buzzsaw." This legendary firearm began its life as the less potent MG34, which shared similar functionality but boasted a lower firing rate and higher production costs. Despite being well-received by critics, the MG34 suffered from a major flaw: extreme sensitivity to dirt. In the aftermath of World War II, the MG42 went on to shape the design of other notable machine guns, including the American M60.
