Here's how it went down during World War 2: A low-poly model of a GMC M12 self-propelled artillery vehicle from the United States made the cut. This bad boy was packed with real details and proportions that made it a true showstopper. It also came equipped with an epic 2048x2048 texture, which featured some serious attention to detail on the AO, decals, and colors – they were all separate layers. Plus, those tracks and wheels used a second texture that was no less impressive at 1024x1024. And you know what? The whole design was tailored for scaling - it would be right at home in mobile games. Now, back to the M12. It was essentially a U.S.-made self-propelled gun built on top of an M3 Lee tank chassis. What made it stand out from the pack was its heavily armored driver's compartment that was shared with the commander. But don't even get me started on the open-topped area at the back of the vehicle - that's where the gun crew called home. Moving the engine forward to the center of the vehicle allowed for some seriously creative maneuvering, and most M12s rocked M4 bogies with trailing return rollers like it was their job (which, come to think about it, it kinda was). This U.S. behemoth came equipped with one of three 155 mm guns: the M1917, M1917A1, or M1918 M1 - each and every one of them straight from the mold of the French 155mm GPF gun from back in World War I days. But let's be real - this was a serious military machine, so storage space came at a premium: they only carried around 10 projectiles and propellant charges per vehicle. Now you know why they came equipped with that massive earth spade - the thing looked just like a bulldozer blade! They put it in place of a typical counter-recoil system, but it worked for this layout where you've got a big heavy gun stuck out at the rear in an open mount and a massive spade tacked to the back. Guess what? This pattern was emulated by all sorts of self-propelled artillery over the years, and that says something - namely, these guns meant business!
