After printing out a few copies of my previous effort, I noticed that there were a few problems with it.

First, the bases for the king and queen were too wide. Point-to-point, the bases were extending out of the squares on my chessboard.

Second, when you lined up the tops of the king and queen so that they were parallel with the squares on the board, the bases weren't aligned. There was a 22.5 degree offset from the way I'd oriented the body.

Third, all of the pieces with points at the top (which is… all of them, except the rook) had difficulty printing the point cleanly.

This set of models fixes these problems. The bases of the king and queen have the corners knocked off so they are a bit thinner, and more rounded. This gives them a different style to the other pieces, but that actually looks quite nifty.

I've also lopped off the top millimetre or so of each pointy top, so the printer is printing a flat as the top layer rather than trying to make a sharp point.

See the original for printing instructions.
