Low mass gearExtruder

thingiverse

This updated extruder features a low-mass design for 1.75mm filament, compatible with vertical x axes having 70mm spacing or horizontal axes using hot end mounting bolts. It is specifically made for MakerGear hot ends with standard mounting patterns. The milled shaft provides better grip than hobbed counterparts and utilizes steel Misumi gears for a 5/1 ratio. The aluminum mounting plate serves as a heat sink, eliminating the need for fan cooling. Weighing half of the original Aluminum Mendel extruder, this version ensures faster prints and smoother operation. Compared to other extruders, it is lighter than gearExtruder, Wade extruder, MakerGear 5/1, and Minebea PG35L w/fan. To fabricate the extruder, use metalworking tools like a MicroMill for cutting aluminum back plate, hot end mounting plate, and hobbed shaft. Print alumPlate Template as a drill guide, and milling is preferable to tapping for optimal shaft performance. A fixture for milling the shaft will be posted soon. For optimal printing, adjust Slic3r settings to .5mm retraction length and 15 mm/s retraction speed.
