The monument showcases a medieval moated site, its earthwork and buried remains standing as testaments to bygone times. A portion of the surrounding medieval agricultural system also lies within the site's boundaries. Situated 3km south east of Whitby, the monument spans fields adjacent to Manor House Farm on the eastern and southern sides, while Low Laithes Farm lies to its west.
