Low Income Housing

OK it fits... I wanted to try adding part cooling without sacrificing my current print quality. I also aimed to go lightweight while striving for a slightly more efficient cooling method. Additionally, I'm trying to incorporate simplified assembly techniques as I tinker and learn more about 3D printing. Mainly I didn't want to decommission my printer for an extended period with wiring changes, firmware updates, etc., while testing different ideas. Lessons learned: Modeling all mating parts will save time and plastic! Final version R2 / V42 Installation: First I threaded one of the existing screws into each of the fan mounting holes. It's easier to do this before installing the housing. You'll only need to turn the screw in several turns to mold the threads into the housing. Next The top and right side have a raised surface to clip over the mounting plate. You will need to gently push the wires away from the extruder slightly to slide the right side of the housing in between the wires and extruder. Align the raised clips behind the mounting plate, then position the only fastener into the hole on the left side of the housing into the lower threaded hole. (I used the original 6mm long mounting screw) Lastly Position the fan so that it aligns with one of the mounting holes and using one of the original fan mounting screws (10mm long), crank it in just enough to hold it in place (several turns). Then add the final screw (10mm long) in the other hole and tighten very lightly so as not to strip the hole. It doesn't take much to hold the fan in place. So I haven't tested this yet to see if it improves print quality, and as far as I know, the fan speed cannot be controlled. So use at your own risk and happy printing! I was able to reduce the weight by more than half, and installation and removal are pretty simple. Mainly I learned more about printing methods like using supports and adding features to improve the overall printing process.
