I sought a setup that was significantly lighter, smaller, and more stable than the standard mini tripod available on eBay from China. Moreover, it had to be sturdy enough to support a Sony A6000. Inspired by PHolzwarth's design, I came up with this innovative remix consisting of a very flat (when folded) tripod paired with a rotula head that can be clipped and screwed into place on the tripod. The rotula features a Withworth standard photo screw whose rigidity is achieved after being screwed inside a piece of M3 threaded rod. Another piece of threaded rod links the three feet together, while a standard 25mm M3 bolt secures the rotula in place. This design allows for a full rotation of the camera between landscape and portrait modes. Weighing in at less than 45 grams, this setup is perfect for treks!
