Low cost filament spool
thingiverse
This spool of thread I use for storing homemade thread. As the core is used, cut the water pipes with a diameter of 50mm and length of 60 mm. In the middle of the tube, make a hole to fix the beginning of the thread. The side of the coil is made from corrugated cardboard, with a diameter of 200mm and 50mm inner space. The coil can be assembled without glue, for easy reconfiguration when needed. After use, disassemble the coil for compact storage. The size of the flanges is calculated to work seamlessly with the FilaWinder from ianjohnson, available at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:174383. This winder removed about 1 kg of filament with a diameter of 1.75 mm. Check out the video below to see it in action, post-printing.
