Low Clearance Rostock Max Fan Duct
pinshape
I designed this custom duct because the standard ducts from Guanajuato, John, and HeathenX wouldn't fit under my platform, which features a unique E3D mount. It was also an opportunity to relearn drawing in CAD after many years of inactivity. This fan fits the 10x30 blower fan that SeeMe sells, and it clears by less than 8.5mm between my effector platform and the nozzle tip without risking snagging on a warped part. I aimed to use natural curves to promote laminar flow without turbulence using an eyeball method only and maximize airflow without putting unnecessary back pressure on the fan itself. V2 (12/7/14) includes better bracing on the mount tab, smoother internal curves, a different opening at the bottom for more downward airflow, and side wings to encourage directed airflow. The model is optimized with 1.5mm wall thickness on all angled pieces relative to printed layer angle, making it more suitable for extrusion width. It's also drawn up in DesignSpark, resulting in a happier model compared to the previous version from FreeCAD. This mount has 1.5-2mm thick walls, so printing it at 100% infill isn't excessively wasteful. You can experiment and find what works best for you; that's exactly what I did. Good luck with your prints!
