Love cherishing the Soul, while preparing to torment it

Gibson described his statue as "the God Eros gently embracing a butterfly on his chest while skillfully drawing an arrow to strike it." The butterfly symbolized the human soul in Roman art and the representation of the goddess Psyche, with wings, embodied this concept. Gibson's design was first created in marble for Lord Selsey in 1837 and showcased at the Royal Academy in 1839. Two replicas were produced: a tinted version for Mr. Robert Holford of Dorchester House and this one made for R.V. Yates of Liverpool. This object is part of "Scan The World." Scan the World is a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory, which aims to create a digital library of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe that are freely accessible to the public. Scan the World is an open-source community project; if you have interesting items nearby and would like to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to learn how you can participate.
