Louis XV as Jupiter at The Louvre, Paris
myminifactory
This is a marble sculpture created by Nicolas Coustou in 1731. It depicts Louis XV as Jupiter with his 'twin' representing Marie Leszczynska also available on MyMiniFactory and Scan The World. The artwork was commissioned by the duke of Antin, general director of the Royal Buildings, to decorate his Petit-Bourg chateau's parks and gardens in 1725. The two statues were later added to the Versailles royal domain after the duke's death. You can spot the attributes of Greek gods next to these monarchs: Jupiter's eagle and Junon's peacock. This sculpture is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit initiative by MyMiniFactory that creates a digital archive of 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe for free access. It's an open-source community effort where you can contribute interesting items and email stw@myminifactory.com to find out how to help.
