This stunning marble sculpture, bearing a signature and date of 1834, was crafted by Jean-Jacques (James) Pradier, a renowned artist from Geneva, born in 1790 and passing away in Paris in 1852. The masterpiece vividly portrays Louis-Philippe, the King of France who reigned from 1830 to 1848. Living mere steps away in the Palace of Tuileries, adjacent to the Louvre Museum, the King developed a profound fascination with the museum, where he proudly displayed his impressive collection of Spanish antiquities.
