Lou's Shrinky Dink Holder
thingiverse
I was sitting with my son this afternoon, watching him color in his Shrinky Dinks. When he finished and they were all shrunk, he struggled with the paper holders that came with them - some didn't fit at all while others kept falling over. He turned to me and said, "I want to make a holder that works so they'll all stand up like they should." He told me he had a plan... My son is six years old, and I said sure, son, let's go make this holder. He suggested the base be circular with a slot in it for the Shrinky Dink to sit. So we measured a few of the shrunk Shrinky Dinks and came up with a good size base. We then measured the average depth and used those basics to sit him down at the computer. He's never really worked on a computer before, but I walked him through using the mouse and adding basic shapes. About fifteen minutes later, walking him through Microsoft 3D Builder software, he had his model made. I didn't touch the mouse or keyboard. I told him how to save it, then he loaded it up into XYZWare and pressed print. Fifteen minutes later, he was the proud owner of his very first model. I couldn't pry him away from the printer while it printed, and the look on his face when it was done and it worked was priceless. That's what I call a fun afternoon! Now I'm looking forward to seeing what else he comes up with next. Print Settings Printer: Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.3 Infill: 10 Notes: Printed on the Good setting for XYZWare.
