LOTUS EUROPA AND ELAN PLUS 2 STEERING COLUMN SURROUND
thingiverse
This is the core for the LHD Lotus Europa Twin Cam Special stalk surround, also utilized on the late Elan Plus 2's. A challenging item to find, it prompted me to create a replica. You will need to attach and cover the top, sides, and bottom with 1/4" foam, excluding the face area. Next, apply a vinyl wrap over that. I use Whisper Vinyl, which is more flexible than standard automotive vinyl and simplifies wrapping around tight edges without wrinkles. The part requires sanding to remove unwanted artifacts left by the rafts and supports, but these will be concealed once wrapped. Good luck with the process. To ensure accurate fit, use 100% infill for added strength and flexibility, allowing you to flex the part into position like the original. Post-Printing: All dimensions will replicate the original once foam and vinyl are applied. Sanding is required due to the raft and support structures. I altered the column opening from 2" to 1.5", as the original mount screw at the 6 O'clock position did not fit well on the original model and the 2" was unnecessary. The top and bottom will need to be flexed slightly for a snug fit onto the column and stalks. I used an original part to create a digital model of this component in Solid Works.
