Lost in Space B9 Robot
thingiverse
This is my rendition of the Lost in Space B9 Robot. All files are manifold and print well on the Makerbot Replicator Mini. The biggest problem with any B9 model is the globe, which I solved using a 50c gumball container cut in half. I invite anyone who has a better solution to post it online for others to benefit from. Only three parts require support when printing: the neck, body middle and claws. A hollow area under the talking plate is located near a passage that connects it to the main body, making it easy to install lights and batteries if desired. Print Settings Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: MakerBot Replicator Mini Rafts: Yes Supports: Yes Notes: The white, gray and black in the THING file names are suggestions for filament colors. Post-Printing The plastic parts come off shiny, which is not their intended look. I used Liquitex acrylic heavy body paint to airbrush the gray, black and other colors. Then, I applied Miniwax Polycrylic (a non-yellowing water-based polyurethane) to the non-black parts for a satin finish. I left the black parts without this coating so they maintain their rubbery texture. JB weld epoxy was used to glue everything together. Some parts need light sanding before gluing for a proper fit. I created this model and invite you to enjoy it! How I Designed This I designed this B9 Robot using NewTek's Lightwave 3d software, referencing various sources for accurate dimensions.
