I wanted total control over my printer's setup, so I designed a custom minimalist mount from scratch. One of my top priorities was ensuring the nozzle height matched exactly with the factory-set nozzle, while also keeping the E3D fan shroud in place for optimal cooling performance throughout all fins. This project requires some minor modifications to the extruder mounting plate and the plastic piece that fits over the stepper motor and lever. To begin, print this part with ABS at 100% infill for maximum strength. It's crucial to use common sense when working on any DIY project – use these instructions at your own risk, and I accept no liability for any potential harm or damage caused. For the best results, print the clamp with its curved side facing upwards, while the mount itself has its curved side pointing downwards, both featuring supportive prints of course. When assembling this mount, remember to drill out the through-holes slightly (intentional design) and utilize shorter screws, readily available at most hobby shops. You will also need to carefully trim the aluminum mounting plate as per the included drawing – a Dremel with a tungsten carbide cutter and finishing with a sanding drum produced excellent results for me. Once the metal part is prepared, carefully file a notch into the plastic piece that attaches to the extruder. It's easy to see where you need to make the cut when fitting the E3D together; just file right where the top of the unit hits against the plastic piece, rather than adjusting the motor's height further up than necessary. Lastly, slice the PTFE tube at an angle so it snugly fits near the hobbed bolt and ensures soft filament flows directly to its designated area. With these steps complete, you'll be all set – enjoy!
