Losmandy G11 Tripod Foot

Losmandy G11 Tripod Foot

This tripod foot is meant to be an improvement over the Losmandy Tripod Foot, which does not stay attached to the tripod during transit. This new design fits into the open bottom of the leg extrusion, friction fit, so that it stays with the tripod at all times. Here is my related post on Cloudy Nights. This way, the tripod can be placed down on the ground/floor without worry over damaging the aluminum extrusion or allowing the extrusion to scratch an indoor floor during storage of the tripod. Furthermore, the rounded shape of the foot provides a relatively small contact patch that can accommodate a sloped/uneven surface. On grass, it does a better job of contacting the soil, rather than ‘floating’ on top of a large patch of grass, allowing movement of the tripod. The last feature is a pocket for installing an 8mm LED, in order to illuminate the edge of the foot in the dark. The use of orange PETG worked well, since the material is sufficiently translucent.I wired the LEDs in series with a single current-limiting resistor and potentiometer to adjust the brightness. I made some housings/clamps to hold these accessories to one of the tripod legs, in addition to my powerpole panel and power meter. I did recently upload these files as well. There are 1/8" stereo jacks (even though you only need two conductors) to go to each of the tripod feet LEDs and to the front-side potentiometer, all wired in series. I used this short 1/8" audio cable to connect the potentiometer to the rear. Then there are two 5.5mm X 2.1mm panel-mount connectors wired in parallel to input power, or pass it on to the next 12V accessory on the tripod.
