Losi Baja Rey Cooling mods (Fits most 1/10 motors)
thingiverse
After running 3s on a stock Baja Rey (no pinion change), I eventually ran into overheating issues. They only started to occur after about 2-3 weeks (about 6 days total) of driving this truck hard in a racing type environment. I wasn't sure if my problem was simply running 3s with sock pinion, or If my original ESC fan was dying. Nonetheless, I wanted to design a bulletproof upgrade. First step, motor cooling. First of all, keeping your motor cool will increase the longevity of your motor, as well as reduce back-EMF, reducing current and ESC temp as a (productive) side effect. Then I increased the ESC fan from 25mm to 40mm. The replacement radiator attached to this "thing" is actually a design to utilize 2x 35mm fans but I haven't finished the 2 into 1 ducting yet, and because I was in a hurry I designed a 40mm ESC fan shroud. Eventually the 2 into 1 duct will mount to the same ESC duct, so it is usable in both cases (IE40mm direct mount or 2x35mm radiator mount). I designed both the motor fan and ESC fan to utilize a standard 40mm fan. Personally, I used Winsinn ball bearing fans, as they are my favorite. The ball bearings increase the life of these fans through rough driving conditions and dirt: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KRST21P/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1 In addition, I simply used excess hardware from RCscrews for the mounting of these parts: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01I41B6PO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 INSTALL: You will need to crimp RC standard connectors and pins to both fan wires on both fan. When looking at the silver side (side that you can see the pins) of the ESC connector, from left to right; Pin Slot 1 is empty, Pin Slot 2 is red (pwr), Pin Slot 3 is Black (grnd). The ESC fan should be cut fairly short and plugged into the original cooling fan plug, The motor fan I simply plug into a spare slot on the Rx. Re-routing the motor wires, servo wire, and now fan wires, cleans up the install quite a bit. Lastly, you will have to cut out the console between the plastic driver insert to fit the bigger fan.
