The Lordenshaws hillfort is a true treasure. It boasts the most accessible entry among all sites within the Northumberland National Park. The fort lies just 400m from a designated parking area along a well-maintained road. The ascent to the fort is hardly taxing at all. Lordenshaws is surrounded by an abundance of archaeological relics and nearby, some breathtaking examples of rock art await discovery. Ancient pathways, ancient burial cairns, and earthworks are just a few of the many historical wonders that can be explored in an agreed access area, courtesy of arrangements made with the Duke of Northumberland and the tenant farmer.
