Lordenshaw - Horseshoe Rock
sketchfab
The model was created using 11 photographs taken during a field trip to Lordenshaw in Northumberland by the British Rock Art Group's annual conference on June 9th, 2019, with gratitude extended to Aron Mazel and George Nash for their organization. The panel is also known as West Lordenshaw (Birky Hill) 1d; ERA-1300. Measuring 2.12m in length, 1.3m in width, and only 0.3m high, the rock's dimensions are clear. In 2001, Stan Beckensall described the motifs on this rock as 'a double groove surrounding numerous cups, some linked, and this groove narrows to a single cup with penannular markings.' Along the top of the rock, there is a line of cups, along with a linear groove. Notably different from these features are one-, two- and three-circled cups, two with grooves extending from them, and one without. Other parallel grooves run downward to the ground. It appears that at least two episodes of marking occurred on this rock, as the cups and rings were created before the double groove was added.
