Lordenshaw Hillfort 7f (Sept 2005)
sketchfab
A carved rock was discovered just south of the outer rampart of Lordenshaw hillfort on Garleigh Moor, which is located to the south of Rothbury, Northumberland. The Beckensall Archive refers to this carved rock as 'Lordenshaw Hillfort 7f', and it was added to ERA by NADRAP in 2008. The team describes it: "Seven large cups are found on the lower south face of the rock, with two small cups located on the upper face. Six possible but unlikely cups appear on the south vertical face. Cup marks are not easily visible - mostly small and shallow, and do not seem to form any kind of pattern. Possible cups are more apparent on the vertical south edge, although these may be natural. Two natural cracks run lengthwise and one across the bottom width." This rock is listed by Historic England as part of their collection at https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1017196 Additional information can also be found at ERA & BA at https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/overview.jsf?eraId=1315 The model used was created from 5 stereo pairs captured by Joe Gibson of NADRAP Team 3 in September 2005. The imagery is part of the full NADRAP archive that has been deposited with Historic England.
