*Update: F3D file is uploaded! Design has been modified to allow for better editability while maintaining functionality. *Update2: Apple (Lightning port) version is uploaded and tested - should work with iPhone's 6-8, may require some additional testing.
About
A simple USB cable clip designed to resolve issues with worn-out ports on smartphones. Frustration grew as cables repeatedly fell out or moved slightly, making charging impossible while using a power bank or car charger. This solution was created to address this problem. The clip costs just 0.05 dollars in filament - a fraction of the cost of replacing a port. It securely stays on the phone through pressure fit and keeps the cable in place. Early results suggest that these clips should last for quite some time, making multiple prints worthwhile. Original version is designed to fit phones with a thickness of approximately 7.5mm and standard rounded USB cables.
How to customize
Given the wide range of smartphone models and charging cables available, customization is necessary for optimal performance. To make this easier, a relatively modifiable Fusion 360 file has been uploaded. To edit the design, follow the guide in the provided pictures by right-clicking on the relevant sketch and adjusting the dimensions according to your measurements (a caliper is recommended for accuracy). This process may require some trial and error.
Q's
Some anticipated questions: * Will the PLA phone clip part wear out over time, becoming loose? Possibly, but it's a quick 20-minute print that weighs only 3 grams; making extra prints is advisable. * Can you use the cable for other purposes? Yes, it simply slides down the cable - easy to grab when needed. * Is this design universal? No, it will likely require some tweaking (Fusion 360 guide in pictures). Keep in mind that a screen protector adds around 1mm of thickness. * Can't you just bend the microUSB cable pins with a needle or clean the lint from the port? Yes and no. Both methods are viable options, but this print is designed for use while moving around - whether it's charging your phone while using it or cycling down a mountain with your phone charging in your backpack. Disclaimer: Don't expect to print this design and have it be a perfect fit right away. It will most likely require some tweaking to work well, which you can easily do through the f3d file in Fusion 360.
