Loose Filament Spool Holder (for Filament Samples)
thingiverse
I tend to collect a lot of filament samples that often arrive without any type of spool. I've encountered many spool holders, but I was searching for something specific - perhaps due to a personal preference. This is my first attempt at creating a solution and I may need to revise it. Loose spools are a hassle and either tangle or become unusable since they must sit on a spool holder as my printers are configured in my environment. With this design, there are tabs in the front that can be easily rotated for simple insertion and removal of loose filament coils. To do so, simply rotate the tabs towards the center, slide the coil onto the three pegs, then return the tabs to their original position. The central spool size is 55mm and the outer pegs are intended for a 140mm coil. This design accommodates my Algix3D loose filament coils, which I currently have in abundance. If anyone requires different dimensions, please let me know. Print Settings: Printer Brand: LulzBot Printer: TAZ 6 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: .3 Infill: 50% Notes: There are two versions of the main spool holder available. I have not printed the one with all the holes, opting instead for a design with a solid center spool to minimize filament usage after printing the first version. This alternative should still work effectively. To assemble the tabs, you will need to print three and then press them into place through the corresponding holes. It may require a slight amount of force to insert them initially, but once in place they should rotate smoothly without coming loose (without excessive force).
