I create a loopback tool from a null modem mini adapter, which has 9 pins. First, I open up the adapter by drilling out the holes on its side. Then, I connect pin 2 and pin 3. Next, I close the mini adapter using this case. Finally, I use a hot air soldering gun to melt the end of the pin and push it flat to secure the end plate.
