Longsword Boffer
thingiverse
This is my custom-made boffer longsword, designed specifically for use in Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) with kids. I drew inspiration from standard féders by Régnyei when creating its design. As a foam blade with a glassfiber core, it minimizes the need for protective gear. To prevent the fiberglass tip from working its way through the foam, I employ a 5cm long armored tube that is threaded 2.5 cm over the end of the two fiberglass rods. The extra 2.5cm protruding creates a good spring, causing the foam to bend around the fiberglass ends. A minimum of 2.5 cm of foam must be present from the end of the tube for safe use. Additionally, two short pieces of diameter 8mm fiberglass rod are needed as a cross guard. Please note that this design is not intended for thrusting. To create one, you will require extra materials: meters of 8mm diameter fiberglass rod, high-impact foam, and a material to serve as the skin on the foam (such as paint, liquid latex, duct tape, or cloth).
