Longerak Power Station was built in 1916 by the state to supply electricity to a sanatorium and general consumers. In 1925, NVE took over the station, followed by Aust-Agder Kraftverk in 1962, and Agder Energi acquired ownership in 2001. The building is called the "Storybook Castle" due to its picturesque location in the forest and design by architect Kristian Hjalmar Biong. The power station features stone construction blending into its natural surroundings, reminiscent of a medieval fortress on a smaller scale.
