Longboard Brake

Longboard Brake – CruiseBrake There are several Longboards/Skateboard brakes with a deck attachment available. For example, the Skate Safe V-brake (https://goo.gl/0CV83r) or the Mingoskateboarding FrogStop (https://goo.gl/DfuLQZ). However, this type of brake reduces space under wheels and increases the possibility of wheel-bites. There are several brakes with a truck attachment as well. For example, Brakeboard Trucks (https://goo.gl/eYoa3e) or SkateBrake (https://goo.gl/7az8ku). They can be quite complex devices. I have developed a simple truck attached longboard brake that is easy to DIY using only wood, plywood, and epoxy parts. The brake consists of a brake base with attachment wedges and a pedal with a rubber brake shoe. The brake base attaches to the truck using steel ties that connect in two points for greater strength. The pedal moves and presses the wheel due to the elasticity of the thin plywood pedal arm. You can see how it works on the plans and photos. The working title of the project is CruiseBrake. It has been developed for Caliber 50/180 trucks, but it can be easily adapted to other truck models by changing the Wedges parts shapes. I recommend using 8-9mm Baltic birch plywood to make the Brake base part and 4mm plywood to make the Pedal arm. The Pedal pad and Spacer parts can be made of any kind of wood or plywood. You should adjust the Spacer height to fit a wheel size, and also adjust the Pedal pad height to fit your longboard deck thickness. The top of the pedal pad should be a few millimeters higher than the deck surface. The pedal should be on the right side of the deck for regular foot riders, and on the left side for goofy foot riders. You need to make different versions of Brake base for these stance styles. All other parts remain the same. I know that many longboard riders refuse longboard-braking systems, but some people like them. This design provides an inexpensive way to try if a longboard brake system would be convenient for you. Note: This kind of brake attachment is not very strong. I do not recommend this brake system for downhill and aggressive riding. It is intended for cruising only. There is no guarantee, use it at your own risk.
