08-25-2018 - INFORMATION Printing this Reed is highly discouraged as it's extremely hard to get it working correctly. If you're determined to print it, ensure that you orient them exactly as I made the STLs. Refrain from purchasing Ninjaflex just for making a reed. This long Practice Chanter serves as an ideal instrument to learn the basics of playing the great Highland bagpipes. After experiencing success with my small Practice Chanter, I chose to enhance this device by crafting a longer version from scratch. Key Features: - Completely printable - Fully functional Chanter Reed available for printing The boreholes are designed with countersinking to simulate a genuine Chanter's feel. It accurately replicates the exact size of a real Chanter. No additional post-processing is necessary; simply assemble and play! Inspired by the #MakeItLoud challenge, I developed this Practice Chanter into a fully printable version, incorporating the Chanter Reed. The objective was to create something that could "make it loud" without compromising pitch quality. After extensive testing and re-printing of the reed, I successfully reached an astonishing 94 dB with the Chanter Reed and 90 dB for the entire Practice Chanter. I'm incredibly pleased with this instrument's performance. This device not only boasts incredible loudness but also possesses a wonderful tone and aesthetic (as far as I think). View my challenge video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/z9EdZDCtcP0 UPDATE 24.11.2015 Added a separate design for those using smaller Printers. Print Settings: Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: Chanter: 0.2mm / Reed 0.3mm Infill: 30% Notes: Materials Used: Orange Components: Ninjelflex (Ninjaflex must be used to guarantee proper function!) White Parts: PLA Black Components: PLA Perimeters Set: For Black parts, three perimeters and five bottom/top layers should be applied. Fifteen perimeter loops for Reed_Lips. Two perimeters are required for all other components. How This Was Designed Creating the Reed was by far the most difficult aspect of this design. To achieve an ideal pitch and sufficient loudness, I iterated through over twenty versions until I felt satisfied with the results. A few more Practice Chanter iterations (totaling four different versions) allowed me to perfect all measurements and pitches so they match perfectly
