London Phone Booth

A model of London's iconic red phone booths. This miniature marvel will make a delightful desk companion or a thoughtful gift for fellow travelers. Please consult the instructions for detailed information about this project. Thanks for checking out this unique creation! Franciscozapski has generously shared his printout, proving that it is indeed printable. To avoid any confusion, ensure you select the correct file to print. A friend of mine has kindly agreed to print this model, but I'm not sure when it will be completed. When it is finished, I'll post photos of the printed booth. This miniature stands approximately 5.9 inches tall and I recommend printing it at full scale to preserve its intricate details. Instructions I created this project because I believe London's red phone booths are a beloved landmark that everyone recognizes. They also happen to be quite cool-looking. To gauge the relative sizes of all components, I used stock images of the phone booths. Then, I recreated them using software at work. To ensure that this object can be printed without any additional assembly, I chose a scale. However, I also decided to add a version that requires assembly (with a hinged door). This model was designed in AutoCAD, although I'm still learning the software. It's also serving as a valuable learning experience for me. Phase 1 (18/07/2015): The initial upload features a simple box shape with indented windows for added detail. Unfortunately, I couldn't devote more time to this project due to other commitments. As it stands now, this design is a solid block, so please don't print it unless you're looking to waste some filament. For the next update, I plan to add edge details and address the object's solidity, making it more print-friendly. Phase 2 (20/07/2015): I managed to squeeze in some work on the model. Here are the changes: • Added "Telephone" text • Enhanced roof detail • Included a base • Made it hollow Yes, you read that right! The booth is now hollow inside and should be more economical to print. Stay tuned for Phase 3, where I plan to add extra details and properly arrange the roof. Phase 3 (24/07/2015): It's been a hectic week! I redesigned the entire roof of the booth, which was quite challenging. Unfortunately, it still doesn't meet my expectations, but this will have to suffice for now. Here are the changes: • Redesigned roof • Added some detail to the back of the booth The back detail might change as well due to misalignment with the windows... It's just a preliminary design for the next release. Stay tuned for the next update, where I plan to add details to all sides of the booth. Phase 4 (28/07/2015): I haven't had much time to work on this project lately, but I did manage to make some progress: • Redesigned roof (again) • Updated detail at the back of the booth • Added details to all sides (including a handle) • Made it completely hollow Now, I'm unsure about the support implications of making this thing hollow, but according to this site, it should be printable on a MakerBot Replicator. I still plan to make some changes to this model. Perhaps a version that prints in pieces and requires assembly to save material (from supports). I have a few surprises planned for this design, though. So keep watching! Phase 5 (01/08/2015): With the weekend comes these small adjustments: • Added a phone What's a phone booth without a phone? I think the next update will be the final one, which will consist of a dismantled version that requires assembly, as well as a surprise... Phase 6 (09/08/2015): This is the final design! Due to my busy schedule with other work, I almost missed the deadline. With this final version comes these changes: • Now made to assemble • The door has (supposedly) working hinges! • A coin bank version is available Thanks for checking out this unique creation! If you want to download the assembly version, grab the 2 files that have "assembly" in their title. If you prefer the coin bank, download the file with "coinholder" in its title. I'll update this page one last time in the future with a printed version of the booth.
