LONDON + BERLIN
sketchfab
London called to me as early as the late 1960s. The Docklands fascinated me, where I worked in a studio of an artist colleague. My trip there led me through Thomas More Street. The sign SLOW written on the street warned drivers about an unclear curve. Towering walls seemed like a scene from Samuel Beckett's final act. Thomas Morus remained vividly in my head. His city novel UTOPIA was a decoded ideal image of a city. The graphic cycle SLOW is dedicated to Thomas Morus. In Berlin, I created the first suite of a city in my work in 1970. In 1987, I designed a series of etchings for the 750th anniversary with motifs of the Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate. After the turn, images of the Brandenburg Gate emerged, with the now-opened entrance. The color scheme with red-black and yellow structures connects historical interpretation to hope for peace.
