The worn stone slab was unearthed around 1870 at a nearby mound north of the church. The intricate carving depicts a Celtic cross enclosed within a circular border. The lower arm of the cross stretches downwards, forming a sturdy shaft that rests atop a simple flat base. Each component - cross, ring, shaft and pedestal - is delicately framed by an ornate bead molding. The cross itself remains unadorned aside from its elegant border. Early Medieval Discovered at Lonan Churchyard in Lonan, Garff, Isle of Man iMuseum (Manx National Heritage) The cross was carefully scanned on-site, resulting in some surfaces being partially obscured or not captured by the camera.
