The Locust was a ubiquitous BattleMech that had been in constant production since its inception by Bergan Industries in 2499. As one of the smallest 'Mechs ever constructed, it was specifically designed for reconnaissance and swift strike missions, leveraging its phenomenal speed to outmaneuver most adversaries. When faced with an opponent that could not be outrun, the Locust had a moderate array of weaponry at its disposal, though it lacked the firepower or endurance to serve as a frontline combatant. Consequently, few MechWarriors enjoyed piloting Locusts. Within its weight class, however, the Locust was regarded as an exceptional 'Mech, surpassed only by designs that incorporated jump jets for scouting purposes. Typically, when a Locust engaged in combat, it did so as a holding action until reinforcements arrived on the scene; yet, when operating in groups of three, they could overwhelm lone enemy 'Mechs that had become detached from friendly support.
