The Cabeçuda shell mound in Laguna, Santa Catarina, is considered one of the largest and most important shell mounds in southern Brazil, both historically and in terms of prehistoric occupation. This site, dated between 4120±120 and 1800±40 years BP, was excavated by Luiz de Castro Faria between 1950 and 1951. Archaeological interventions carried out there revealed an extraordinary richness - stone artifacts and human skeletons, charcoal fragments, fish bones, layers of ashes and shells, and diabase blocks.
